Company overview

Axross Co., Ltd. is a software and web application developer. Mr. Tsuda, the President, comes from an engineering background, and with the desire to create a place where engineers can play a leading role, he has set a goal of "creating 30 businesses by 2025 and 100 businesses by 2030." Therefore, in addition to development commissioned by private companies and government agencies, we continue to create areas where engineers can play an active role, such as creating new services through in-house development of products using Web 3.0 technologies such as the metaverse and blockchain.
In recent years, the company has begun hiring foreign employees in search of talented engineers and new business ideas. Today, engineers from about 10 countries around the world gather together to explore new business opportunities in systems development while taking advantage of each other's cultural strengths.
Ganesh, who hails from India, is one such person. He says, "I was relieved that there were many foreigners like me working at the company and that there was an atmosphere of acceptance of different cultures," but at the same time, he was initially perplexed by the differences in work methods. "In overseas system development, I was not accustomed at first to the Japanese way of doing things, which starts with a careful examination of specifications and definition of requirements. But as I continue to work, I am learning new things, noticing things like the benefits of maintenance and upkeep," he says.

Work-life balance initiatives

As a system development company, we aim to take on new challenges, but we also emphasize gaining "experiences outside of work." "If we only do work, our employees will get stifled, and in fact, the company will not grow. By gaining various life experiences and taking on challenges in new areas, both employees and the company can grow," says Mr. Miyamura, General Manager of the ICT Business Division. In fact, "the Open Project System," which allows employees to launch their own projects, has led to a variety of activities outside of work, such as holding social gatherings and camps.
What makes the company unique is that such non-work activities can be included in the assessment items of the "360-degree assessment." Ganesh says, "It is refreshing to be able to appeal and be evaluated on items other than work." The program was originally the brainchild of an employee. This shows a corporate culture in which employees themselves create systems from the bottom up, rather than management making top-down decisions.
Remote work is also possible, although it depends on the project. Ganesh says, "The elimination of commuting time has allowed me to make jogging and other forms of exercise part of my daily routine." We have a good track record of employees, both men and women, taking childcare leave and nursing care leave, creating an environment in which engineers can work as long as their life stages change.

Human resource development initiatives

Axross' goal is to develop human resources who can work as "lifetime engineer." "The skill set required of an engineer varies greatly depending on the external environment and their years of experience. At such times, it is important to catch up with the latest information and skills, of course, but first of all, we believe it is important to have basic skills as an engineer." Therefore we have developed our own practical training program called the "Engineer method" that allows even people with no IT experience to become beginner engineers in just 2 months. The program is designed for people starting from scratch to systematically acquire fundamental knowledge, skills, and mindsets that can be applied to all areas of system development. In addition, technical study sessions are held as needed, allowing employees to acquire practical know-how and step up as engineers.
Another feature is that interviews are held at each project milestone, where employees can discuss their own career paths. "We take care to assign work that is in line with the individual's growth path from three perspectives: the employee's will and ability, and the company's policies." According to Ganesh, "Through the interviews, I was able to see my current situation and the goals I should aim for in the future. Also, when I have problems, my seniors and supervisors are very helpful and supportive," he says with a smile.

Japan is a country with much to learn, not only in terms of technology, but also in terms of manners in public spaces, where one can gain a variety of experiences. Many people at work are friendly and helpful, and you can grow at your own pace. In the future, I would like to hone my skills as an engineer in Japan, and eventually become a leader who can organize and lead the opinions of the team.
